Suspected robbers kill policeman in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command on Tuesday night , lost a policeman , Corporal Ibrahim Sirajo , to a gang of three suspected armed robbers who invaded a popular supermarket in Katsina .

The policeman was at the supermarket to charge his mobile phone when the armed robbers stormed the shop located along the Katsina / Kano Road at about 9 pm .
Sources said the policeman was a member of the patrol team keeping vigilance along the Katsina/ Kano Road, adding that the robbers shot him at a close range , leading to his death on the spot .

The robbers , it was learnt, thereafter robbed the supermarket before taking off for another part of the town where sources said they were sighted attempting to change the number plate of their black Volkswagen Golf car

Sources revealed that the Commissioner of Police in the state , Muhammadu Waziri , on hearing about the incident , immediately led other police chiefs to the scene .

Operatives of the Special Anti - Robbery Squad , who were also drafted to the scene , were said to be on the trail of the armed robbers .

Police spokesman , DSP Gambo Isah , confirmed the incident , sayings efforts were on to track down the hoodlums.
