[ STORY TIME]πŸ’•JOINT IN BETRAYAL EPISODE 36-42❤

Thanks guys for being here. I'm in school and it has been difficult to write here cos the work load is much. But trust your girl, I won't fail to update once I get the chance.
Love you all

Now let's boggie downπŸ“₯πŸ“₯πŸ“₯πŸ“₯πŸ“₯

Episode36
She wheeled her box downstairs just as Claire was about rounding up breakfast.
"I'm leaving your house for you." She said without emotions
"Beautiful." Claire replied sipping from her glass of freshly made pineapple juice.
This angered Amara and she had to say anything to get her mad and upset.
"I just pray your husband doesn't come running back into my arms when you go to that Philip guy."
To her surprise, Claire smiled, stood up and began to walk to her slowly.
"I don't blame you Amy. I blame myself for sparing the rod when it came to you. As for my husband, he can go running to your cheating arms for all I care but let me not hear of it. Its only when you get married that you'll know the repercussions of what you're doing now."
"Not like you're holy Claire. Stop pretending."
"Wow. You now call me by my name? Beautiful too. I won't explain details of my life to you. If I could be with Phil, I won't come back to this house but hey, I'm not a loose woman like you and I don't bite the hands that fed me. With that been said, get out before I push you out myself."
She looked at Claire, hatred and anger filling every vein in her. She would come back and when she does, it would be as the madam of this house. She held the handle of her box and gave Claire one last glance before she left the house.
Claire closed her eyes and breathed out. She didn't do the right thing. Where would she go? Did sshe have enough in her account to last her for a while?
She lowered herself to a cushion and pleaded with the tears not to fall. She should have forgiven her sister. Besides, everyone deserves a second chance.
Gertrude had watched the drama from the stairs. She felt for her boss. Now, how would she go and tell her again about what Micheal did to her?
She slowly began to walk downstairs. She won't tell her but she'll leave the house so that even if she finds out, she'll be in far away Edo state.
She got to her boss and tapped her, taking the glass of juice which was about to spill.
Claire opened her eyes and forced a smile.
"Yea. You wanted to talk to me about something."
"Yes madam. I know this isn't the right time to say this but forgive me please."
"Go ahead Gertrude."
"Uhm. I want to leave madam. I think I've saved up enough money that will assist in taking me back to the university."
"Hmmm. You want to further your education? That's very nice. Where did you stop?"
"I only have my OND certificate madam"
"Alright. I'm happy you love education. When do you plan to leave?"
"Tomorrow. So I can be able to buy the form and prepare for the exam."
"Alright. Tomorrow then."
"Thank you madam. God bless you."
"Amen. And bless you too Gertrude."
She watched Gertrude leave in excitement. If only she were her sister. She got up and headed to her room.
He dressed up and looked at the figure beside him.
He had called his personal assistant to forward her account details to him. He convinced Amara that the doctor was a woman and she gladly sent the money to the account.
Before their marathon sex, he had convinced her to forward her resignation letter to the company, promising her heaven on earth how they'll leave for Abuja together and get married as soon as possible.
Without thinking, she had done that, adding sexual harassment as her reason for quitting. He so much ruined her and he was contented at the turn of event.
He had screwed her like it was his last, milking her for what she's worth.
She responded, not knowing it was her last with him; screaming his name and letting the hotel know how much she loved him. The gentleman had again of course, had the audio recorded on his phone.
Micheal would love to hear it. He would send it to him on his way home, alongside the videos. He would know that no woman would come running to a married man without expecting anything in return or being faithful to the man.
He got up, left her a copy of the video and a written note before walking out, out of her life forever.
So she wasn't seeing Phil after all? That takes him out of the picture. She would get her revenge. She must. This wasn't the end of it. She had called an agent to get her a flat somewhere in mainland. She would just be away for six months so she would pay the six months rent. Claire would hear from her because she won't let Micheal go that easily. He still had to finish what they started.
Her kitten itched with excitement and she knew she had to settle down and call him asap.
Her phone rang and it was the agent.
"Is it ready?...... The furnishings?....... You think I'll like it?..........alright send me the address. Once I see it, I'll transfer your money to you.........I'll be there soon.'
She hung up, picked her box and headed to the taxi stand. Her new life just began.
He had to do something to keep himself busy till it was time to meet his wife. He got his laptop and logged into his FB account, nothing serious. He went to nairaland and a story was trending. Purityval has uploaded a video of a random girl having wild sex with a minor. Interesting.. He opened it and confirmed the source of the news. Naijaexposed. Wow. He clicked like then proceeded to watch the video. Bloody Moses! Sarah? The face of the said minor was sensored. He had the body of a grown man and seemed uninterested in the sex but Sarah kept on pushing him.
Jeez. He would get her fired so she doesn't ruin the image of the company.
He picked up his phone to call her and he realised he has an unread mail. He clicked on the message and it was from the board. They were calling him for a meeting in one week because his secretary had resigned because he was sexually harassing her.
Anger boiled in his veins. She had used him, claiming to love him. He had been a fool all along.
He opened his WhatsApp messenger and went to her profile only to realise she had blocked him. Fu©k! She was indeed a b!tch. Kelvin had warned him but he refused to listen.
A message came in from Kelvin at that time and he opened it.
"Man, have you seen the trending news? Your secretary is hot. I'm on my way home lover boy."
Attached to the message was an audio clip which he played and Sarah's moans and screams filled the room.
She had played a fast one on him. Regrets started sipping in and he knew that if he didn't play his cards well, he'll loose his shares from the company even though he had the largest and the company belonged to him. He shook his head in regret.
If only he knew.

Episode 37

She woke up with a massive headache. She was still in her birthday suit, the same way Kelvin had left her hours back.
She felt his side of the bed but it was empty. She stood up weakly and went to the bathroom, there was no sign of him or any of his clothing.
How could he leave without letting her know? She picked up her phone to call him and realised that a sheet was folded neatly under it.
She picked it out of curiosity. Maybe it could be a love note from her heartthrob;
"By the time you'll be reading this, you'll be the most sort out pr•stitude in the country and far beyond. You owe me a lot, for bringing you to popularity. What were you thinking? That I'll date you, you of all people? With your bleached face and fake charisma? I'm laughing out loud right now. You're a big f••l miss secretary. Wait for the 3.4mil and a visit to my father. Enjoy the rest of your stay at the hotel. You still have like four more days to enjoy my money. You will be asking why I'm doing this to you huh? Call me karma because I destroyed you for breaking into Claire's marriage. See you when I see you, bleached face.
She slumped on the bed and cried bitterly. How could he do this to her? She loves him a whole lot but look what he's done to her.
She picked her phone to call him only to realise that her entire phone has been restored to factory settings. All her contacts, messages, chats and pictures have been wiped. He didn't want her to reach him ever again.
She noticed the disc on the table and she picked it up, brought out her laptop and got the heavy shock of her life.
He looked at his phone now, praying that a miracle happens now that he's going away. She should at least, drop a message or call him. He looked at his phone one last time as his flight was announced. It was a lost battle. She wasn't coming to him anytime soon.
He left the room, having decided to speak to his wife. His conscience was dealing him blows and kelvin was yet to show up.
He found himself in front of her room and he tapped on the door.
He got no response and he repeated the action. He heard feet shuffle and he braced himself for an attack.
She opened the door and her fragrance hit his nose. He had personally recommended the soap for her because it smelt like strawberry. Her eyes scanned him without emotions and he swallowed hard.
"Yes?'
Her voice was calm and a little bit shaky but her face showed strength and bravery.
He knelt down and held her feet, sobbing quietly. She shifted back and looked at him properly.
"Micheal what is this?

Episode 38
"What is this Micheal?"
"Baby, I'm sorry. I know that no word justifies my action towards you this past few days but please honey, for all we've shared, forgive my shortcomings. I....'
"Get out. Get out of here before I change my mind Micheal."
"Honey, hit me, slap me, do whatever but please, forgive me. I don't know what came ovet me. I was blind Claire. Listen, I promise we can still be better than we were. Holiday to Bahamas, shop at Dubai, anything you want baby."
"How about giving me your attention? If its not a board meeting by ten, its a business proposal you want to look at. Micheal it's not about money and material packages Micheal. If you'd given me attention, you'll notice the changes in me and we'll tackle it together. I don't want holidays or picnics or shopping or whatever. I want my husband Micheal. I want the man I married. Give him back to me Micheal."
She cried, sliding down the wall to the floor. She wept, thankfully and still, with lots of regrets. It was going to be difficult for her. He had slept with her sister, who knows what would have happened if she'd not caught them that night.
He kneel walked to her and held her, pulling her into his arms. He had missed her and he regretted ever making her cry. She'd been faithful to him, even after she found out that he was having an affair with his secretary. The secretary that had ruined him. He was going to deal with her. If only he knew that things would turn out like this, he would have had her fired the very first time she seduced him. But he thought with his Johnson instead of his brain and it had cost him a lot.
"I'm sorry baby. I'm sorry I promise. Let's go back to the life we had before now. I'll make everything better I promise. I'll be that man you want Claire. I promise."
She let him hold her. She'd missed him.
He walked upstairs and found them in each other's arms, crying their eyes out. He smiled, beating his chest proudly for accomplishing his goal. At least, he would go home now without fear. Claire has got her marriage back and he was satisfied. He would talk to Micheal later but for now, they should take their time.
She stepped into the flat with her box. The agent came to her immediately with a big smile.
"Hope you like the apartment madam?"
She looked around, satisfaction gleaming in her eyes.
"Show me around. I'm loving the decor already."
He smiled and led the way.
Twenty minutes later, she was transferring eight hundred thousand naira to his account while he wrote her receipt.
"I would have paid for a year but my husband will be back before the expiration of this six months.'
"Its alright madam. You're welcome."
He left the apartment and she went to the room. The house was big enough to contain six people but it was only a room and sitting room with the dining area. It also had a big kitchen and it was worth the amount being charged for it.
She began to unpack her things, having it in mind to call Micheal once she was done.
They both sat down on Kelvin's bed, not talking to each other. Claire had cried herself to sleep in his arms and he had carried her to their room, their matrimonial room. He was about going to the sitting room for a drink when he ran into Kelvin who invited him to his room for a chat.
"Man, this silence is killing o." Micheal said
Kelvin smiled.
"I'll get us drinks and then ask the girls to send chicken upstairs. It's good to have you back bro."
They shook hands and Kelvin left the room. He would disclose nothing to Micheal. The most important thing was that he had realised his mistakes. Whatever happened before today should remain behind.

Episode 39
The next morning began with Gertrude making assorted dishes. It was going to be her last chore in the house. Ebere and Chika helped her, pleading with her at same time not to leave. They'd made white rice and vegetable sauce, roasted turkey, catfish peppersoup, white yam and egg sauce. Now, she was frying the plantain while the girls washed the dirty dishes.
"Don't worry eh, during vacations, I'll come around, that is if you girls are still here."
"Are you sure? Don't do us promise and fail o." Ebere chipped in.
"I won't. I promise." Gertrude responded
"I won't say anything yet o till I see you. Ehe, are we expecting guests?" Chika asked
"Mba o. That other visitor, Mr kelvin gave Gertrude the list of what to cook. Maybe they're celebrating something." Ebere responded.
"Nsogbu adiro. My stomach is already wanting the food." Chika said and they all laughed.
Gertrude rounded up with the plantain and put it in its place before heading to the dinning to set the table.
She ran into Micheal who came to collect water from the fridge.
"Good morning sir." She greeted
He looked at her, memories of what he had done to her came to his head and he bit his lips.
"Morning Gertrude. Uhm, are you really going navj to school or you just used that to get my wife's permission?"
"I wish to go back to school sir and I told madam the truth.'
"That's good to hear. I want to apologise for what I did to you. I need no soothsayer to tell me that's the reason why you're leaving. I'm sorry and do find it in your heart to forgive me."
"Please don't embarrass me sir. You don't have to.......'
"My being your employer gives me no right to treat you in whatever way I please. Forgive me and thanks for keeping my secret."
"Its alright sir. Thank you. Breakfast will be ready in ten minutes."
He gave her a nod and left with the bottle of water.
She woke up and was surprised to find herself in a different room. She looked around and saw her wedding pictures on the wall. How dare he bring her to that room? How dare he make her lie on that bed he had defiled? She stood up and made to leave but the door opened and he came in, bolting the door behind him.
"Good morning my princess, hope you slept well." He said with a smile.
"Why did you bring me here?"
Her question surprised him but he still maintained his smile
"Baby this is our room. You slept off and......"
"And you should have taken me to my room. Never you think that I'll share this room with you again."
"Baby I'm sorry. You don't have to punish me this way honey. I love you and treating me like this hurts Claire. It's not fair."
She felt his pain but she needed to break him. He needs to respect her as a woman.
"Sleeping with my sister is not fair. In my house, in my room, Micheal that is not fair. I'm outta here."
She brushed past him and left the room.
He sat down on the bed, holding the bottle of water. He deserved it, whatever she does or says, he deserves it. But he won't stop, he won't give up in their marriage.
His phone beeped and he picked it from the lamp stand. It was a text message. He read it and ignored it, gulping down the water straight from the bottle.
He would straighten his marriage, make things perfect and then deal with his past.
The intercom rang, inviting him for breakfast. He picked up his phone and left the room.
She picked up the phone and the grumpy voice spoke up;
"How do I get my money? Or do you wish I get it in kind?'
She smiled. He was always the best.
"I'm coming to the house."
She hung up, picked her handbag and left the house.
She got to her house and was surprised to see the MD and some guys in the premises.
He saw her and walked up to her.
"Good evening Sarah."
"Evening Sir. Has it been long you got here? Let me open the door so we'll go in."
He nodded and she led the way. She opened the door and he followed her while the rest of the guys waited outside.
"Sit down sir. I'm sorry it may be dusty. I've been in my aunt's house."
"Hope everything is fine?" He asked, using a finger to check the cushion before sitting down
"Yes sir." She said, sitting adjacent to him
"The boss sent me to you." He started.
Her heart started the somersaults. Was she going to be arrested for lying? Maybe he misses her and wants her back. Or, has he seen the videos trending online? It's been two days since kelvin duped her.
"He wants to apologise for harassing you and pleads that you do not take the case to court."
She nodded. She wouldn't be that stupid because he was innocent and she would loose the case if she dared. She doesn't even have money to hire a good lawyer.
"Secondly, the company has given you 30 days to vacate this apartment since you've resigned from the company. We'll be checking if we owe you anything and you'll hear from us in six days."
She was doomed for life. With the trending videos, who would ever employ her?
The MD stood up and she joined him.
"I just hope you know what you're doing Sarah. I'll leave now"
She thanked him and he left. She slumped in her former position and cried bitterly. She should have remained in her lane after the several rejections from Micheal but no, she wanted to explore. She had learnt her lessons the hard way.
Kelvin and Micheal were already in the dinning when Claire came down. She was dressed in a plain chiffon gown and she had a notebook in hand.
She got to them, greeted Kelvin and sat at the end of the table.
Ebere served her white rice and vegetable sauce, adding two slices of yam, just the way she liked it.
"Where's Gertrude?" Claire asked?
"She's dressing up." Ebere replied.
"Okay. Tell Chika that I've called the agency and two more girls will be joining you tomorrow. You may leave now."
"Thank you ma."
"Eh?"
"Thank you madam." Ebere corrected.
"That's better."
Ebere left the dinning area with smiles. Her boss was educated and loved having intelligent people around.
Kelvin bit from his turkey and hummed.
"I'm sure you guys will miss Gertrude." He said.
"Big time. She's good and I'll miss her, but then, she's leaving for her own good." Claire added.
"I'll pack up these things when we're done, then I'll eat them all later. She's a wonderful chef." Kelvin joked
"Your stomach will end up suffering the consequences." Claire said and they laughed.
Gertrude showed up with her bag just then. She was dressed in a jean trouser and Versace top. Her natural hair hung on her shoulder. She wore no make up but she looked beautiful enough to turn heads.
"I'm ready to leave madam."

Episode 40
"You look beautiful Gertrude." Kelvin commented and Gertrude blushed
"Thank you sir." She replied shyly.
"Gertrude, I want to thank you for the time you spent here, helping me take care of my home. I pray that God blesses you abundantly as you go in search of greener pastures." Claire said
"Thank you madam. I'm also grateful for all you've taught me. I'll always have you in my heart. Thanks a lot madam." Gertrude spoke with emotions.
"Here, have this. Add it to whatever you have saved up." Claire said, handing her a cheque from the notebook she came down with.
Gertrude took the cheque, examined it and was on her knees immediately, holding Claire's feet.
"Thank you madam. Thank you so very much. You've been like a sister I never had. May your river never run dry. May........"
"Amen Gertrude, please stand up." Claire stood up, trying to pull Gertrude up.
She succeeded and they both went into each other's arms.
"You'll be successful Gertrude and please, always keep in touch."
She nodded, not letting go of Claire.
Ebere and Chika watched from a corner, shedding tears silently.
"Gertrude." Kelvin called out.
She freed Claire and turned to Kelvin.
"Come." He said standing up
She approached in unsteady steps as kelvin dipped a hand into his trouser pocket, fishing out a bundle of money.
"I hope this helps too." He said, handing the money to her.
She thanked him and put the money and cheque into her handbag.
"Thank you sir, thank you madam. I'm grateful."
Claire nodded and sat down on her former position, resuming her breakfast.
"Uhm, Gertrude." Micheal stuttered
Everyone turned to him including Claire.
"Please have this." He stretched a cheque to her.
"Don't bother Sir. What madam and Mr Kelvin here has given me is more than enough. Thanks anyways."
She went to the surprised Claire, gave her a hug and picked up her box
Ebere and Chika came to her and together, they left the dinning area.
Claire and Kelvin stared at Kelvin. Claire was ignorant of Gertrude's reason for acting that way. But Kelvin knew and he didn't blame the poor girl.
Micheal felt insulted. How could she make a fool out of him like that? He cast his anger and frustration on his plate of yam and egg sauce. Stupid! He cursed.
He stood up and left the dinning, feeling two pairs if eyes digging a hole at his back.
He got to his room, cursing Gertrude. She had made a fool out of him, how dare she.
He was about hitting his fist on the wall when kelvin came into the room and locked the door.
"Did you see that cheap thing? That nobody, she made a fool out of me in front of those house girls. She's lucky she's already leaving or else......."
"You would have raped her again?" Kelvin shot at him.
He turned to kelvin in shock, so she told him.
"Yes. How could you be so shaneless Micheal and you're here, beating your guts because she refused to take your gift? If I were in her shoes, the moment you try to give me that money, I'll ask you the exact thing you're paying me for."
Micheal shot his eyes up, shame written all over his face.
"You f'd up man. How did all these things start? Sarah. You go running after women not knowing what they've got inside them. I'm happy Sarah ended up the way she did and if you don't change, you'll end up in worse situation. I came to tell you that I'll be leaving in two days." Kelvin concluded, spared his friend one last look and left the room.
Claire remained seated at the dinning even after Ebere had cleared the table. Why would Gertrude reject Micheal's cheque? Something was wrong and she just has to fix her hand on it. She glanced at her wristwatch, nurse Abigail was yet to show up.
She called her office to know if things were running smoothly after which she left for her room.

Episode 41

She picked up his complementary card. It was her last resort. She prayed he picks her call. She dialled his number using a different sim and he picked after the fourth ring.
"Micheal Njama on the line, who's this?"
It was obvious he was angry but she just had to do this.
"Micheal, your friend set me up. He drugged me to make me sexually active and he ended up getting it on tape. He r@ped me Micheal and in my unconscious state, forced me to tend in my resignation. Micheal.........."
He hung up and she threw the phone on the bed. He didn't believe her. He will never believe her.
He had heard enough. So Kelvin was the architect of it all. He had hated Sarah so much but this was the height of it. He angrily left the room and headed to Kelvin's room, anger mixing with the blood in his veins.
He got to the room and without knocking, threw the door open. Kelvin turned in shock.
"Man, easy with the door abeg."
His statement was met with a blow on the jaw and before Kelvin knew it, he was on the floor.
"What are you doing Micheal. Are you drunk?" Kelvin asked, holding the urge to hit back.
Micheal didn't stop throwing punches.
"How dare you set her up? How dare you r@pe her? How dare you Kelvin?"
This infuriated Kelvin and for that, he started throwing back the punches. A little struggle here and there and Kelvin was on top, beating Micheal without batting eyelids.
He stood up when Micheal stopped his attempt at hitting back which was a failure.
"I've always wanted to do that to you the very moment I saw Sarah but I held back. It's a shame that for the sake of this same Sarah, you hit me man, you hit your own brother. So what if I set her up? At least she's paying the price for everything Claire went through. She'll be jobless her entire life and your facing the board is just a little punishment so you can control that little man down there. You're a f°°l Micheal and your only luck is that you're my best friend." Kelvin concluded, wiping the blood that was running from his broken lip.
"Get out of my house." Micheal said from the floor
"Of course I'll leave but bear this at the back of your mind, go back to that disgusting b!tch and I'll ruin you from Abuja because I also have a tape of you two in your office. F°°l." He cursed and turned to the door to see Claire standing there.
He wiped his lips again and left the room. He needed a drink and he'll book his accommodation with a hotel.
He would be there till his looks are okay before he goes back to Abuja.
She had heard the commotion and was curious. What kind of rough play is that one? She got to the room only to realise that it was rough but the play was excluded after all.
She had heard it all and swallowed it; hook line and sinker.
She also turned and went back to her room. Micheal could fight for a lover, interesting. She lay on her bed and the effect of the drugs came down on her and she closed her eyes to answer nature's call.
Kelvin sat at the bar in the sitting room. The liquor burned his broken lip but he didn't stop. There was need to get wasted. His own bestfriend asked him out of the house. What's worse? He filled another glass and emptied it in one gulp. He already paid for a suite at "ancient pillars" so he was waiting for the sun to go home before he left.
Thinking about the fight, he hissed again and slammed his fist on the table. A sane Micheal won't hit him, a sane Micheal won't ask him out of the house for the sake of a woman who isn't Claire.
She woke up, stretched and left for the kitchen. It was time for her favourite "twist of fate" and her room was becoming boring to her so she decided to do it in the sitting room but first of all, she would get junks to keep her mouth busy.
She picked a bowl, the cornflakes pack and the thin of milk. She also picked a bottle of water and began her journey to the sitting room. She can choose between corn flakes and her love for beans and plantain.
She got to the sitting room upstairs and was surprised to see Kelvin sitting at the bar.
"How long have you being sitting down there?" She asked, dropping her packages on a side table.
He didn't respond.
"Are you drunk?" She asked again
He chuckled
"For the first time in my life Claire, my drinking prowess has failed me. Look, I've downed half of this bottle but I'm sober."
She took the nearest bar stool and held his hands.
"Kelvin, you don't have to get drunk for any reason and you know it."
He looked at her and shook his head.
"You saw that right? My brother hit me because of his lover. Ain't we supposed to be inseparable? He chose his lover over his own brother Claire.".
"The same way he chose that lover over his wife. Come, I know what to do to get you outta this mess."
She stood up and he followed suit. She picked her properties from the side table and they headed to the dinning.
"Claire, I'm not a baby."
"Neither am I. But I love cornflakes."
He smiled and they settled down. She mixed the junk and they settled down to it, each picking spoons from the spoon rack on the table.
He hadn't come back to the room. Or did he leave without his things? He looked at the wrist watch, it was few minutes past seven. He stood up from the floor and grunted in pain. He couldn't stand straight and he was sure his face was a sight for sore eyes. He carried himself out of the room and heard laughter coming from the sitting room. He recognised his wife's laughter anytime. He had missed that.
He tiptoed to the sitting room and found them eating from same bowl. He withdrew and leaned on the wall.
When was the last time he ate with his wife, when was the last he made her laugh so loud?
"This is the last one, you'll have it so open up." He heard Kelvin say.
"You've fed me all through. Lemme do this one." His wife said babyish
"Alright."
He heard them mimick a mother feeding a baby and jealousy choked his throat.
"Thank you Claire. You're the best."
"I know, I know. You don't have to say that."
They both laughed heartily.
"So its been settled, tomorrow, we're going shopping at your plaza.'
"Yipee."
Kelvin laughed.
"You're a baby, you know that right?"
"I'm not. Babies don't get married."
"Right. So, breakfast, lunch, shopping and movies with me tomorrow. I want to enjoy my last moment in Lagos with you."
"Awwn. What about dinner?"
"You'll have dinner in your home Claire."
Silence fell between them and Micheal was tempted to go and apologise to his best friend for fighting him.
"I'll be leaving now Claire. I'll call you tomorrow morning."
"Good night Kelvin and please, take care of yourself."
"I will pretty face."
He quickly left, not missing his wife's chuckle. He rushed to his room and bolted it from inside. He didn't want to see his face. His pride was too much.
A quick turn from the door and the pain on his waist came back.
"Sh!t" He cursed.

Episode 42
He was seated at the dinning, waiting for breakfast when his wife came downstairs. His jaw dropped open as he watched her.
She was dressed in a yellow chiffon gown that stopped on her mid thigh. The gown was so transparent that he could see the white crop top and white bum short she wore inside.
She completed her outfit with a white Nike snicker and a white channel handbag.
One thing he loved about his wife was her fashion sense. She stood out wherever she went. Little wonder her business was successful because people kept endorsing her.
"Good morning." She greeted
"Morning baby. How was your night?"
"I bless God. I'm leaving for the plaza." She pouted her lips
"Won't you have breakfast with me?" He knew the answer but he just wanted to ask.
"I'll eat out. Thanks. What will your day be like?"
Anger and jealousy filled his heart. Kelvin was trying to take his wife from him.
"I'll go to the office. I've got to make arrangements for a new secretary and a PA."
"You never wanted a PA before now."
"Change. It won't hurt if I try it out now."
Her phone beeped and she checked it
"I'll leave now. Be home early for dinner."
To his surprise, she pecked his forehead and cat walked out of the house.
Was he dreaming? Claire pecked him?
He stood up and rushed to the window in time to see her step into her car.
This was a good start. She has forgiven him. A smile appeared on his face as he sat back at the dinning.
Ebere came out with his breakfast, served him and was about leaving when his phone beeped.
He read the message and paused.
"Ebere right?" He asked
"Yes sir. Do you need anything else?"
He ran his eyes over her and shook his head. She was more beautiful than Gertrude but with lesser modalities.
"Run me a bath." He said and started eating his favourite dish of spaghetti.
They sat at a table beside the window at crunches. He had not only taken her shopping but had given her a lot of profit for the day because all they bought were from her plaza. Handbags, boots, heels, wedges, snickers, clothes and wigs. The sales girl had given them a discount like she didn't know them. Everything was stacked in her car. They had taken pictures and videos which were trending on Snapchat and Instagram. She had never had so much fun in her life. Now, they were seated for lunch.
A waitress came with their meal; two plates of fried rice, a full chicken, bottles of water and a bottle of Andre.
She dropped them on the table and walked away, promising to bring dessert in forty five minutes.
"Wow. Full peppered chicken. I'm so loving this."
She took pictures while Kelvin laughed.
"I'll say it over and over again, you're a baby."
"And this time, I have to agree with you."
They laughed and started eating. This was of course, the best day of the young woman's life.
Pairs of eyes met him as he stepped into the complex.
He wasn't shaken because he expected the reaction he was getting.
He responded to greetings as formal as possible before heading to his personal lift.
He had done what he thought would remedy the situation. He had called the board to a meeting himself and had even gone ahead to invite Sarah.
He got to his office and sat down. Nancy, the MD's secretary had cleaned his office for him and he was grateful.
She came in moments later, bearing some files.
"Excuse me sir. The MD asked that you look at this files." She dropped them on the table.
He nodded with a slight smile.
"The board will be ready in an hour for the meeting."
"Nancy, I want to ask you a personal Q."
"Go ahead sir."
"What's your opinion about men who cheat on their wives?"
While they waited for dessert, they got busy with their mouth.
"So when will you bring a woman home? I need a daughter in law Kelvin."
He laughed and she followed.
"Oh my Claire you won't kill me y'know."
"Believe me, I won't."
They laughed again.
"But I'm serious. When will you get married?"
"Soon pretty face. I just don't want to make mistakes. You know, I thought Amara was the one but she was totally the opposite of who I thought she is."
Her eyes narrowed but she maintained her smile.
"Don't use that as an excuse. There are lots of good women out there. Don't let Amara's behaviour ruin your thoughts about women "
"Of course not. You're a woman too so I need no one to tell me that there are good women around."
"Good. So when are you leaving?"
"Tomorrow evening. I've booked my flight already."
"Awwn. I'll miss you Kel."
"Not as much as oll miss you pretty face."
She smiled and held his outstretched hands over the table
"You're a good woman Claire, you're strong and I'm proud to be among the few people in your life."
"Don't make me cry Kelvin. It'll ruin my makeup and I won't look good for an afternoon selfie." She sniffed, holding back the urge to cry.
He laughed and pinched her palm
"Don't cry honey because I need that selfie."
"Then don't make me. I'll miss you Kelvin."
"I know. I know Claire. But I want you to be happy. You know the difference between good and bad. Instead of you to stay unhappy with something, walk away before it eats your head. You know what I mean right?"
She nodded and her eyes caught the waitress approaching with their dessert.
"And my dessert is here." She giggled excitedly.
"You're a baby "
"I know. I know."
They laughed as the waiter approached their table.
Friends who make your happiness their priority are not just friends. They're family.
